Process Piece

I think my video turned out okay. But I did not know it was going to be hard to find people to interview. Most people did not want to appear in front of a camera or did not have any opinion on sexism. Another thing that I noticed was that when I asked the sexism question, all of the people answered with negativity and that made them answer what feminism is with negativity too. Also, the editing part was a little bit challenging but we were able to figure it out.

Beautiful Daughters and Trans Woman Manifesto

The video “Beautiful Daughters” and the article “Trans Woman Manifesto” taught me a lot of things that I did not know about transgender people. In the article, Julia explained that transgender women need to embrace their feminineness and fight for equal rights as a feminist. She encouraged other feminists to do the same because just as women need to be valued, so do trans women. She also explains all the oppression from different sides of society. She talks about how transphobia affects trans women by expressing insecurity about someone’s own gender. She also talks about how cissexism affects trans women because people who were born with their desired gender prejudice transgender people by saying that they are inferior to them and that cisgender people fit in the norm of a binary gender society. Finally she mentions misogyny towards women as a problem that affects trans women. This is true because in society we are ruled by patriarchy and when someone does not follow the norm, men tend to ridicule the, just because they don’t want other people to embrace their femininity.

We as people need to take into account all these prejudices against transgender people and help them by respecting their choice or the way they were born. We need to include them in society as normal people who just want to live happy, have dreams, and have a voice.

Video Teatment

The topic of my digital video project is sexism. I chose it because I am a man and that the real reason why I wanted to take this class was to understand women better.

The story of this video would be to learn about how sexist society is, aka, the city where I live. In the video, I am going to go to a mall or another public place and ask people important questions that reflect their views on sexism and try to make them think about their own prejudices.

I am planning on using my friend’s video camera and because I use windows operating system in my computer, I’m thinking of using the Windows Movie Maker software. I think I’ve used it before in high school but I can learn it fast, and also my friend is good at making videos so he can teach me about it.

The research would mostly be about finding the right questions to ask these people. I am planning to make them educational and also entertaining.

I am going to start creating questions this week and by the weekend I’m going to talk to my friend about choosing a place to film. I am thinking of filming it that same weekend or if necessary, in the beginning of next week. So by next week, we would be able to put the video together.

What I really want other people to get out of this video is that feminism is not about women who are angry at the world and hate men, but about anyone, even guys, that strongly believe in equality and try to teach my little city what that is about.

Lady Ga Ga ... ... ...

I truly don't know who lady gaga is. I just know that she is a pop artist that makes catchy tunes, dresses funny, and likes to do whatever she pleases, for the looks of it it seems. But if she is someone who believes that women and men deserve to be treated equal, then I think she is a feminist. The image that she portraits on the media is all about showing who you are and not being afraid of it; to embrace your way of thinking. Even though she does that by showing her body and that may become patriarchy. As Bell Brooks said, it's all about commerce and being famous. Maybe later in life we would see a more mature lady gaga that actually speaks to the people and acts on the media by really saying what she believes.

The F word

Well I’m a guy, and I truly believe that society and the media have affected the way I think about the word feminism. It’s true that the word feminism makes me think of only women who hate men and the world that it’s being ruled by men.

I always thought that there was inequality between men and women most likely on how they are treated. Like when you think of a doctor, someone would usually think of a male doctor and not a female, or when you see a female leader you think of how hard it must have been for her to reach that status. But something that truly shocked me was that women sometimes get paid less than men. I just couldn’t believe that. I knew that women were not treated equal in the workplace because the chiefs or the CEO of the company were most likely men, but getting paid less for just being a woman is outrageous. Then it made me think of all the “special treatment” that women get, such as being asked if you plan to get pregnant in the near future or the higher chance of sexual harassment that could happen to them in the workforce.

I agree that the word feminism means equality for male and female alike, but the media has been trying to opaque feminism. The truth is the most people now, even though they don’t know it, are feminist. They believe that we should all have equal rights. That it’s wrong to oppress any gender even though society is still creating myths about it. Now I can say that I m pro-equal rights for women; I am a feminist.
